Merry Christmas from Sioux, and all of us to you......
I did not put up the tree, but after a monumental effort of hauling out the decor boxes ~ because they are way back in the closet in my office ~ I scrounged through and picked out some things to put up. Then once I had put up the items I had to put the storage boxes back, because I wouldn't even be able to walk without stepping over it all. What a giant pain in the arse. Next weekend I will look and see if any of the tree lots have fresh garland. If not, well, that's OK.
Romeo wants Louisiana gumbo for New Years, and now I want it today :-D I probably ought to get lunch after I finish this!
It has been quite cold, and we did have a few snow flurries this morning, but I think the snow is done. The high today is supposed to be 35 ~ it's 30 right now ~ I doubt we will hit 35 unless the sun comes out, which it hasn't done yet. The perfect day to do a few chores, and curl up in my chair with my book. I don't have much else planned except baking bread for a friend. Oh, and I had planned on cleaning the stove top, but that may end up waiting until tomorrow.
I am really trying my best to find some Christmas cheer ~ it's quite a struggle. I hope all of you are doing a better job than I am!
Off for lunch ~ have a great week!
Love, 365
Since it is my least favorite holiday I have no cheer. :-) I did the decorating one year but no tree. It was still a pain in the arse as you said. I still was hauling things and vacuuming dead needles from wreaths and garland. Then putting it all away again and well, then we began going away each Xmas for our vacation so that could stop. Now broke, in a pandemic and we can't go anywhere so we are staring at one another thinking, should we? The unnamious decision last night was NOPE. We will play holiday music and make homemade egg nog, bake cookies and I burn a yankee candle that makes everyone think we have a real tree somewhere. That is all I can must this year. BaHumbug
ReplyDeleteLol, I forgot the Ba-Humbug. Perhaps in better times we can vacation during the holidays...say 1 or 2 years from now! I too have the spruce scented candle. Not too much holiday music but I have made enough cookies for a small village ~ I am not done unfortunately! A few days ago my neighbors lawn nativity was stolen, omg, she went a bit nuts on that. It's really a tough Christmas season for sure. I'm not much of a drinker, but I'm thinking of taking it up.
DeleteJudy does a couple of table top Christmas layouts and that's it. And she's been doing a ton of Christmas cookie baking for gifting. That's it for us.
ReplyDeleteI've baked so many, I'm really hoping someone bakes some to give to us! And you know, it's really enough. My house is full and I don't need anything anyway! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
DeleteNot too much cheer yet. Christmas need little kids, not that I want any now, but I do miss them this time of year.
ReplyDeleteKids do make a difference, with their sparkly eyes and eager anticipation! My Grandkids are quite far away, but we'll have plenty of face time and phone calls.
DeleteThose boxes are a darn nuisance. I have the de problem. Can't wait to pack it all away. Our decos and tree will be full of dust after a month and a half of hanging around. I wouldn't put up a tree if I didn't have grandkids close by but I do enjoy seeing their twinkly lights in other people's windows.
ReplyDeleteWe have decider, as usual, to have fatty Ork on Xmas day. Other half aind is on Xmas Eve finger food. I dont want to think about food, especially those sticky gr Xmas cookies on our table lol
Sorry, more mistakes than usual. Writing on a small phone is not easy. Hope you get the gist. Why blogger doesn't give an edit option I can't understand, they change everything else
DeleteOk, I had quite the chuckle. Did you mean fatty pork? Otherwise I have no idea what an Ork might be, but lol. Thanks for the smile on my face, which is rare as hens teeth these days :-D
DeleteIt's a tough year for most people. I do think many started decorating much earlier this year in an attempt to have something joyful in their lives. Louisiana gumbo sounds good, though! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteOh, gumbo is soooo good. It is quite an all day affair though. One year I thought to try browning my flour first, but discovered it isn't near as good as making the roux the old fashioned way, stir stir stir (for 30-45 min) until it turns nutty brown. Drat. The recipe was given to my Mom when they were stationed in Louisiana, and has a whole chicken, a few links of sausage and lastly a pound of shrimp the last few minutes. It warms you up on a cold day for sure! Food always cheers me up, haha.
DeleteMerry Christmas to you, Romeo and Sioux. If you find that Christmas cheer, can you send it my way? Not having taste or smell for 3 weeks has put me in a depression doldrum and I am looking forward to getting out of it.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! I am so sorry to hear that! I would be depressed too, Christmas has so many wonderful smells. I hope you get those senses back soon. Hope you and your lovely family have a great Christmas!
DeleteMarry Christmas and have a great weekend to you :)
