Hiking and baking........

Look closely at the sign.....at some recent point in time a kid ~ or kid at heart ~ put a little toy dinosaur on it.  A bright blue one.  Sometimes you see small cairns too.  A few months after the pandemic came, people were painting rocks and placing them along the trail.  Seems like every week there were new ones and the collection was fun to keep up with.

I loved this Halloween display that faces only the park.  Very clever and cute.

Bees, still busy out there.  Lots of blooming plants still around here, but I loved that I caught this one on a lowly dandelion.

Not long ago I saw some suggestions on how to take photos from a different perspective, so I placed my phone on the ground beneath this dandelion for the photo.  I was pleasantly surprised, but I need a little more practice.

Yesterday I baked a new Greek desert ~ ravani.  I'm not sure it turned out very well, but I have no way to know, never had one.  It's really too bad the recipe didn't explain to take the cake out of the pan before you pour on the syrup.  It would have turned out so much better if I had, I rather squished it getting it out.  I'll have to ask one of my cowokers (she's made it before).  So, I guess I'll keep it in the fridge until Monday.  All in all, rather disappointing.

Sleep well!

  1. Great dandelion shot. I will ask my neighbour about the cake - she has not instructed me in the ways of cake yet. I tend to bake English style cakes.

    1. My fav cakes to make are sheet cakes, as they are a lot less trouble! My favorite is Texas sheet cake, which is chocolatey and yummy, with a fab frosting loaded with pecans.

  2. I keep my ravani in the tin. The syrup is absorbed better and you take it out slice by slice. Ravani doesn't rise very much. I'm not the best at cooking it. Mine tends to be a bit heavy but our neighbour makes it often. It's syrupy and yummy!!
I'd keep it in the fridge if you're not going to eat it quickly. You need the syrup at the bottom of the tin to add a little to each bit as you serve it .
I'm sure yours is omorfa Kai oraia, beautifully wonderful. Or words to that effect.

    1. Ha ha, too bad I can't have you taste test it for me! The recipe was woefully lacking in certain details. The photo showed what I thought were pistachios, only to figure out later were almonds. I think the pistachios are yummier. And I am keeping it in the fridge, thank you!

  3. I've only had ravani once. I'd love to be your taste tester next door😅

    1. Lol, all you have to do is move again :-)
I've never had it before, but I'm experimenting with some of the Greek recipes in a cookbook I borrowed from a co-worker. I thought it was rather dense ~ despite the 4 egg whites whipped into soft peaks. Like I said, not sure it came out right!

  4. Ravani sounds lovely. Like your photos. I might have to try that photography trick of yours. We have seen a lot more painted rocks out on trails since COVID and it is always a pleasant and welcome surprise.

    1. It is a surprise ~ and now I've seen two of the tiny plastic dinosaurs, which made me feel like I'm on a treasure hunt. For tiny dinosaurs :D
