The sh*t just hit the fan.....

I lost my keys.  These are the keys to my mailbox, my house, my office, and the key to my filing cabinet (of which I only have one).

What I did was this: I was checking the mail, got my package out of the package box, then went to my car and drove home ~ not realizing I had left my key ring in the key slot of my mailbox.

This means that whoever grabbed my keys can get into my mail (which I promptly put on hold), and worse yet, my house.  I suppose if they were so inclined, they could get into my filing cabinet, although there's not much of interest in there.

Luckily, Romeo is home 98% of the time.  He just drove to the hardware store for a new door lock assembly.  Although ours has a keypad, it can also use a key.  And since the person who has my keys can get into my mailbox, they know our address.

Least of all, I have lost my favorite key ring, which I've had for over 25 years.  But as I said, that is the least of my worries.

Not my favorite day, and boy am I stupid.

Love, 365

  2. Oh hell. Change as many locks as you can. Hope whoever found them is an honest citizen.

    1. Better than that, no one took them. I'd say that's a minor miracle!

  3. Maybe a nice person took them to return them safely to you. Of course you can bnot take that risk.

It is a pretty easy goof up, you get distracted with the mail and forget to take the keys out of the lock. I have left keys in my front door several times by being distracted.

    1. It is easy to have your mind occupied on something else and forget something so small. Which then becomes something rather big!

  4. Don't call yourself stupid. I think we've all done things like this. Like JoeH said, maybe a nice person will return them safely to you. In the meantime, do change locks and be on the lookout for anyone who might be causing trouble.

  5. We have definitely done that here. Left our key in the mailbox once, the person who found it went around the neighborhood triggering the beep beep on the keychain, looking for our car. When they found us, they brought the keys up. Recently my husband left his keys in the trunk lock on his little car out front and someone brought them to the door.
I hope your keys turn up.
    But you're not stupid.

    1. Wow, I would have freaked out even more if my car keys were on there. But as you'll see in my next post, mine had a happy ending too.

  7. One of life's complications - keys I mean. Along with smartphones, internet banking, online shopping, and virtual reality sports which are all things that are meant to save time and make life easier but eat huge amounts of time and leave you feeling less satisfied than real shopping or a real round of golf or game of tennis or a real conversation with a person you love, keys and smart security are just another thing we have to worry about and which cause so much stress without and equivalent return. Life moves so fast and we are all thinking one or two or more tasks ahead so little wonder details of the current one get left behind. All will be well in the end.
